Kitten Proofing Your House Seasonally

A guide to keeping you kitten safe in Christmas, Halloween, and Easter.

Hi, I’m going to help you keep your kitten safe throughout the seasons.

I’m going to be explaining how to be safe in Christmas, Halloween, and Easter.

Christmas

Ok, first you must understand that Christmas could be dangerous for your kitten. I will be explaining how to keep it safe.

First, you should be careful with the type of decorations you use for the tree. Don’t use really heavy decorations, or lights that become very hot. Cats will eat tinsel, and it can get stuck in their intestines, so don’t use tinsel. When stuffing stockings don’t pack them so full that stuff falls out, because your kitten could get into anything that’s on the ground. If you have chocolate at Christmas then you should make sure it’s not lying around, as cats can get seriously sick from chocolate, or any food for that matter. When you unwrap your presents make sure you clean up immediately, especially when you have bows. You should also take note that kittens might try to climb the tree. After Christmas you shouldn’t play with your new Wii or computer all day, because kittens have feelings too, and might think that you don’t love them anymore.

Easter

Easter is a less dangerous time for your cat, but you would do well to take this advice.

When it’s Easter, most kids think of chocolate egg hunts, with a cat this is not always a good option. First thing you should know is chocolate is dangerous and sometimes deadly to cats. One good idea that I had is to place eggs outside, and keep your kitten inside for about 3 days. If you can’t place eggs outside then use the hard plastic eggs with chocolate inside them, so that the kitten won’t eat them.

Halloween

Halloween is the most dangerous holiday for cats, so take much care at this time.

There have been many decorations made for Halloween, and not all of them are safe. Fake spider webs are stringing and sticky, and your kitten might try to eat them. If you have a Jack-O-Lantern don’t use candles, I’ve found that flashing bike lights work better. If your cat gets it whiskers singed from the fire it will loose the ability to sense things with them and it will be very skittish. If your cat is meant to be an indoor cat then make sure your kitten is far away from the door when handing out candy. Also chocolate is very dangerous to cats so make sure the bowl of candy is in a cupboard until Halloween, and when it is brought out watch your kitten so it doesn’t eat anything. If you insist on wearing your costumes before Halloween don’t scare your kitten with them.

I hope this helps. I hate knowing that cats everywhere die because of foolish mistakes.
