How to Tell If Your House is Haunted
Here are some ways to tell if your house is truly haunted.
Often you wonder is there someone else living in your house other than you? You may experience odd noises or hear the floor boards squeak in the middle of the night, or you just have that feeling like you’re being watched. You either brush it off as that the house is old or your mind is playing tricks on you. Well, worry no more, for here are some ways to tell if your house is truly haunted.
If you have pets, you can watch their reaction to things around the house… You may see your cat staring at something across the room but is invisible to your eye or your dog barks for no apparent reason. Animals have a sharper sense of psychic abilities, so if your animal is acting oddly you may just have a ghost on your hands.
Do you have that feeling as you’re walking about you tinkering with something in your home that there is someone gazing over your shoulders or follow you from room to room? If you notice this in particular parts of your home, this definitely may be paranormal activity.
Have you turned a light on or left a door closed only to find it open or the light off? This type of activity goes unseen most of the time. Ghosts often like to do these types of things in order to bring awareness of their being and make their presence known.
There is often that noise that goes unexplained. It could be footsteps, knocks, banging, rapping, scratching sounds, or the sound of something being dropped. There is no explanation to it, but you think there has to be a reason. Truth is, there is a reason. You have a ghost haunting your house.
Other more convincing signs that you do have a ghost in your home include the following; the feeling you were being touched but no one was near. People often feel something brush past them, something touch their shoulder, hand and hair. Do you hear a muffled voice, whispering, or crying on occasion but you can’t find where it comes from? These are more definite signs of paranormal activity within your house. You also may feel cold or hot spots as these are indicators of haunting.
Finally, you may experience apparitions. These are physical manifestations of a spirit or entity. These vary in visual form. It may just be human-shaped mists or transparent human forms, or even human forms that look as real and solid as any living person.

You can also watch the reaction or behavior of any small children. Children are like animals most times they can sense and even see what grown-ups don’t because they are not as closed minded as adults and more eager to play along, which is why spirits are more drawn to children because their innocent ways.

Great article! I’ve actually wondered if my house is haunted. The lights have cut off and on by themselves and the printer will start running sometimes even when the powers not turned on to it. Of course, this never happens when my husband is around, so he thinks it’s just my imagination.

WOW! It definitely sounds like you may have a ghost of some sort living in your house! I know what you mean about only you experiencing it and not your husband… it’s similar to my experience. Over the past few weeks things have been happening, 1 of the main ones is not knowing how our dog got out of the bathroom….
It was 3 weeks ago Saturday, my sons and I left our pit bull in the bathroom with the light on, the door shut, with 3 chairs, in case she tried to push it open, it would not budge, our other dog was in my sons room with the door shut….we left to the hospital at 7:30 p.m. arrived home at 1:30 a.m, only to find the pit bull on the couch…..I asked my son I thought you put her in the bathroom, he said, I did…..my son’s got what they could in there hands, and I stayed at the door….they went room to room only to find no one in the house, and no poop or urine on our wood floors………my son called me over to the bathroom to where the chairs, and the door were in the same position as when we left…….my son opened the door to realize Yes the dog was in there, due to her mess……We have no clue on how in the heck she got out of the bathroom…..
That Sunday afternoon, my youngest son called me to open the screen door, i told him to open it, he said Mom, why did you lock me out, I had not even went that way to front screen door…..
Please help me find out what is happening in my house….

WOW! If you want to know what’s going on, I recomment getting a paranormal expert to check out your house. There are quite a few paranormal experts that you could ask to take a look at your house in California. There are the Paranormal and pyschic investigators in Upland California, Southern California Ghost Hunters Society and Southern California Paranormal Investigators… Hope that helps! after reading these stories, I`m convinced that something was in my house and it followed me to my new home.. I lived in the same house for 37 yrs until recently I moved into a bigger home with my 3 children. Before I left the old house, my husband could hear a woman talking to him but only when he was in the shower. Often I would wake up to find all my cupboard doors open but thought it to be one of the boys getting up in the middle of the night for something to drink. After the birth of my 3rd son, things got a little more strange, I actually felt something come into bed with me, cuddle up to my back. I could feel a pressure from my neck all the way down to my feet as if my husband was behind me but when I realized it wasn`t my husband I sat up. I asked if he had came into the room and he said no… he too has felt like a soft breeze on his arms etc… now that I`m in the new place I feel the tips of my fingers being pulled but never anyone around. Another strange thing happened 2 christmas ago when my middle son got a guitar as a gift. Now his bedroom is downstairs and we were all sitting on the floor in the upstairs living room when we heard the guitar tuner playing. At first I thought it was funny everything that had happened but when this scared my kids I got upset and stood at the end of the stairs and shouted out he/she/it wasn`t welcomed in my house anymore. For about 1 month there was a feeling of sadness in my home like something was missing. Slowly things started happening again.. the voices talking to my husband and our 7 yr old son when he`s in the tub. He will ask me if I yelled out his name..when I talk to my sisters about it they all think I`m crazy until one day the door opened and closed in front of her as she was leaving.. I started to laugh and said that was george showing you the way out.. I could go on and on about things but I would be writting a novel…

We just moved into this house this past July (the home was built in 1965), and to date I’ve nor my son (whose now
have had any weird encounters, and feel very comfortable living in this home. Well, that was until two nights ago, and now I’m back to being scared and concerned for my family.
About 20 minutes after I had put my son to bed, my husband and I were settling down to go to sleep too, like almost every night for the last fifteen years, I cannot seem to sleep until I know that he’s either sleeping or well into that mode. So I was listening for the tell tail sign of his breathing leveling off like it usually does, indicating that he is indeed sleeping or well on his way to sleep.
So, as usual I turned on my left, got comfortable and started to relax/sleep as well(I’d estimate this to be about a five-ten minutes time span). All of the sudden my body felt like a very heavy weight, I tried and couldn’t move, my hands and feet went numb, and my heart started racing….that’s when I noticed a very strong presence behind me. I couldn’t determine if it was good or bad, but the feeling being watched or of “something there” was overpowering, and then the confirmation of the “something” came….whatever it was touched my extended leg (that was under the covers) it touched from top of the covers and slid from ankle to mid thigh, before I heard what I thought was “hmmmm” and then the feeling was gone as quickly as it started.
I could now move, though my heart was still going a mile a minute, my hands and feet were no longer numb/tingly, I would now sit up and look around….and as expected…there was nothing there.
Does anyone else “experience” these types of things? Or am I alone?

Something strange happened tonight in my house i was in the shower and my kitty cat was in the bathroom with me sitting on the edge of the tub purring as usual when the hair dryer turned on full blast when im pretty sure i unplugged it and then my cat went and hid and she sniffed around and got twice her size with her fur standing on end and she started pawing at the air and jumping back and im like whats going on, and then as i got out of the shower i had just gotten a brand new straightener and the instructions were where i left them out of the corner of my eye the paper did a 180 and then as i was leaving the steaming hot bathroom i felt a rush of cold breeze by me it made me cold… oh and lately ive been smelling really nice cologne when its only me and my mom living in the house were both girls. oh and sometimes my light if i hear a noise ill turn it on then i settle back down in my bed and then i hear a click and it turns off i ask my mom if she did it and she was fast asleep

Wow! Those are some amazing stories. It definitely sounds like both of your homes are haunted! In most cases it’s a friendly ghost/spirit and you don’t have anything to worry about. You can also get a local paranormal expert to check out your home and even get the spirit removed if it’s really bothersome.

I’m sorry to hear… Experiencing any form of paranormal activity is scary in itself. I would suggest to find local paranormal investigators who could check out your house and if you want, have the spirit leave. It doesn’t seem to be an evil spirit from the stories that you’ve shared with me.

I can’t tell if the noises in my home are from settling or if I have visitors. There are alot loud creaks in our ceiling, in the same place, every night. I also get loud bangs on my window. It used to be only at night, but it just happened in the daytime while I was resting with my daughter. And I swear I heard footsteps. the only thing is, my dog is not acting strangely at all. Does this mean the house is settling? It is only three years old. We started renting in in January, but noises did not start until late March. Does this make sense? Any help would be great.

A good indication that you have a ghost is if your dog is acting strange, but as you say he/she isn’t, it leads me to believe that the house may be settling. My house is also about as old as yours and it has started to make sounds, but I greatly believe that it is just settling, as for my cat is quite normal when that the noises happen. I believe that you don’t have anything to worry about. Keep paying attention to your dog and how he/she acts through out the day both when it’s quiet and when the noises take place. If you don’t want to wait and would rather know for sure or not, finding a local paranormal expert may be a good idea.

i stayed over at my boyfriends last night and for the first time i felt un easy as i was going to sleep, he had already fallen asleep and couldnt drop off. After a while of having the feeling we were not alone a tapping started which shortly after turned into a loud banging sound. I then heard floor boards creeking outside the door, as if someone was pacing quietly. I rarly have an uneasy feeling but then i felt as if someone was watching me, then i had starnge tingle in my foot which got worse, then i felt a cold breeze on the back of my neck, which was only for a short time. The uneasy feeling then went away a few mins after and it felt normal again. Is this a ghost?

Yeah, i was over my grandmas house last mothers day and they always told me that there was something upstairs but i never believed it and i was in the bedroom upstairs, and i hear footsteps coming by the door and then the door opened a little bit. It was weird and now me and everyone else that visits there feels un easy and like something is going to hurt them as they walk down the stairs. THe house is verrryyy old and it used to be a summer house. you can even be watching tv in downstairs and hear it every once in a while, it gets to the tip of the stairway and stops. also, the bathroom light turns off when you walk in. Is this a ghost?? could it be that someone had died on those stairs?? please i need some help with this, my whole family is curios.

It does sound like there is a ghost in that house. It sounds like the ghost just lurks around by the stairs and bathroom area which could often indicate there was a death in that area. If the ghost hasn’t tried to harm you and your family yet, there is a good chance that it never will so you don’t need to worry about getting hurt.

I’ve studied alot about the paranormal, I love everything about it. And I hope to even get a job where I can go to Country to Country studying old castles and farms for paranormal. I mainly want to study the ghost that are voilent, I know that sounds stupid but its cool to find out why they are so mad. I really want to go to England and study the paranormal. Ghost are kinda hard to believe in until you see it with your own eyes. And I’ve never seen a ghost but I have seen things happen that had to reason. Like I’ve seen a plate thrown across the room and it was only me and my cousin in the room and she was standing beside me. I’ve felt cold and warm spots before. Ghost are real, Its just most of them dont want to be helped or seen.

Hey weirded out, My father died when I was 13 and I had to come all the way from Michigan to handle everything,I was sleeping over at my aunts house the night I got there and my cousin was sleeping in the same bed with me to make sure I was alright, I was really close to my dad so I was reall up-set but the next morning my cousin went up to me and said ”Did you feel anything touch you last night?!” and I said ”No,Why?” and she said ”Something touched me like it was feeling me up and then it was like my whole body froze and I couldn’t move, and it felt like something heavy was laying ontop of me.” So it could have been my dad or not. But yeah I would say you have something along the lines of paranormal in your house.

i recently bought my mobile home 2yrs ago from a repo center and the past couple of mths stuff has been falling off things such as the walls, beds, etc….for no apparent reason is a spirit trying to get my attention? May i add i see things out the corner of my eye sumtimes its a green or blue light. Then i get cold and hot spots brush by me. Im wondering wht the heck happend in this house!! AUGHHH!

Last night I turned off all my lights except for my tv in my bedroom and not long after I looked up for some reason something caught my eye and then my light in my living room turned on its really crazy because to turn it on you have to turn it almost a full 180. So then I got up and turned it off and went back to bed and just as i was about to fall asleep my daughters motion sencer princess wand started going off, that creeped me out so I had my boyfriend go check what was making it go off and he said there is nothing out here and kinda just laughed and went to the kitchen to get a drink of water well just as he was starting to lay back down the light turned back on and the wand started going crazy. I then got up and threw the wand outside very creeped out!!

I read your article and the paragraph about your pets noticing stuff grabbed my eye , Sometimes when i go to bed my cat comes in for some love but after a while he starts to stare at the door and doesn’t seem to move at all just stare and last night me and my friend had a sleepover and my cay came in the minute my friend herd a noise in the bathroom the cat once again starred at the door. Also we have a dog a chocolate labrodor age 10 , she barks randomly at the same time every time each night she barks out the window we switch the outside light on but there’s nothing there. I once also hear funny noises and my younger brothers woke up at round about 9:30 at night a couple of months ago and started crying about seeing a hand , then my other brother herd noises and so did my parents did not believe my please give me some ideas to persuade my parents everything that is happening is true
