How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies

It is that time of year again, time for the fruit flies to enjoy our fruits and infest our homes… NOT!

There are several ways to rid your home of these pesky little bugs.

Personally, I use whatever they are attracted to make a trap ( like, if they are in my home because I have bananas or peaches in the house).

*** I use an old coffee can and put some fruit and a drop or two of vinegar in it. Then I put the lid on and make small holes in the lid, the flies go in but can not get back out.

Another effective method is to put some fruit juice and vinegar in your drains overnight, then first thing in the morning, flush the drains with running water for a bout a minute. The vinegar and fruit juice in the drains attracts the fruit flies to go down the drains… then, just rinse them down!

Most importantly be clean! Clean up any remnants of fruits and vinegars promptly.

Rinse your cleaning rags/cloths with bleach solution when you are done cleaning.

After peeling or coring your fruit, put the rinds, peels and what not into an airtight container before tossing or immediately take out to compost.
