Housework Can be Easy and Safe

Elderly and housewives have to manage tones of works every day. If they are not careful enough, they may be injured. Therefore, I’m here to tell some unique method to reduce your workloads!

  Before I tell you the 2 methods, I have to tell you the correct position, and what you have to do while you are doing your housework.

Proper Position

  Position may affect our spine and legs, so you should have a proper and comfortable position while you care doing your housework. First you should slightly bend the knees and tuck in your tummy before picking up heavy loads. Hold the load close to your body. Moreover, keep your back straight and tighten your abdominal muscle to support the spine. Stand with feet apart at shoulder’s width and avoid excessive knee bending so as to keep your balance. Use long-handle mops or brooms to clean the floor so as to avoid having to bend the trunk and strain the spine. When performing household tasks in the standing position, place one foot in front of the other to keep your balance.

Understand your limit

  Other than telling you a proper posture, you have to know your limitations. For example, if you cannot handle a young child, ask family members for help. Moreover, if you cannot hold the heavy object, you should give up!

Stress Management

  Once feel stressful in managing household tasks, you should think of if your standard is too high. Set a more realistic goal that can help yourself. If you cannot, you can find a servant to help you. Moreover you can seek for your friends or relatives to ask for their advices!

  And now, I am going to tell you what is energy conservation and also joint protection techniques. They may minimize the chance of getting injured at work. Here are the tips:

Joint Protection

  Avoid over-loading the joints during housework, or else the soft tissues of the joints could be damaged easily. Do remember to do stretching exercises daily to keep the joints flexible and strengthen the muscles. It can protect yourselves from injury.

“Energy Conservation”

  Energy Conservation doesn’t mean that how to conserve the electricity but is means that you have to Simplify work procedures and use different ways to “save energy” while doing daily housework. For example, you can sit down to do work like ironing. Moreover, you can choose a suitable electrical appliances which can shorten your time spent. For example, use micro-wave oven to shorten the time of food preparation. Using a vacuum cleaner can be a very good choices! it has a long-handled design to clean the floor to avoid the need to bend down. Last but not least, take rest after a period of time of working. This can let you relax and also to let your leg and spine to relax!

  To conclude, other than a proper posture is required and also a realistic goal. It can reduce the chance you get injured. And very importantly is that relax yourselves after a long-time working, this is good to your health!

  1. A few grammar problems but a good article overall. However, it doesn’t take in some conditions we all have as we get older. For example I can’t bend my knees enough to properly pick up heavy loads therefore, I have to strain my spine, or find another method.

  2. Your problem is really popular in Hong Kong, and so I may neglect it. I will suggest you to buy a picker to pick something that is smaller in size and for picking up heavy loads I will suggest you to ask your family members to help you. Yet I cannot find any machinery to help you. But if you cannot bend your knees, you should reduce your weight to minimize the weight bearing and you can do knee exercise to strengthen your joint and the muscles!
