Cleaning Tips for a Longer Lasting Life for Your Appliances

Tips on making your appliances last longer. Don’t let your hard earned money go to waste.

Everyone has high hopes for their appliances when they buy them. Everyone has their own time span, but most people feel that dishwashers, dryers and washers should last for at least seven to ten years, refrigerators and freezers ten to twelve years and small appliances between five and seven years. The truth is these appliances never do last as long as they used to anymore. Why is that you ask? It’s because numerous consumers aren’t taking good care of these objects. Life is hard and busy. People barely have time for themselves anymore, or they just don’t know how. Well, ask no more. Here are 5 top cleaning tricks that will make your appliances last.

Always clean your appliances. Clean your appliances after you use them. Though you may not feel like getting on your knees and wiping out that oven after you’ve just made lasagna or barbecue chicken, there are three good things that come out of taking that extra 10 minutes to make your oven shine. 1. Stains are easier to remove 2. No stinky/stale smells the next time you’re ready to use it. 3. You will have less to clean when that dreadful cleaning day comes. Less to clean means you will finish in a shorter time and you can still have half of your day. Most appliances can be cleaned right away such as ovens, stoves and other appliances you use regularly.

Check for dust and grime at least once a month. Set aside a day where you clean all appliances that can’t be cleaned after use. Your stove burners, refrigerators, freezers and some small appliances fall into this category. Checking for these things can prevent damage to motors, blades, and other important parts.

Buy self cleaning appliances and products. Many appliances to date are self cleaning. I will warn you these can be very expensive; however they last longer and are less time consuming, all you have to do is press a button or turn a knob. Self cleaning products can help you if you aren’t financially able to acquire a self cleaning appliance.

Keep settings on recommended temperatures. Having temperatures set at unusual freezing or low temperatures can either spoil your food or over freeze your food, which leads to more of that snowy looking stuff buildup in your freezer. Keep on recommended settings so there won’t be as much frost buildup inside your freezer.

Avoid overuse of harsh products and scrubbing agents. The chemicals in these cleaners are well working this is true. However, they can lead to faster rusting and damage to your appliances. Scrubbing pads made of wool can leave grease trails if not properly wiped up after scrubbing.

Happy cleaning!
