Bored in Class? Five Great Time Wasters to Pass The Time

Everyone gets bored in class. Whether you know the material or just don’t care, here’s some things to do to make the time go by much faster.

Make a Timed Drawing

I have found this method very effective at passing time for those of us who can’t draw.  The first step is to set an interval of time.  After you’ve tried this out for the first time you can modify the interval to better fit the amount of time to waste.  The interval I commonly use is just 1 minute.

The object of this is to play a game with yourself in which you must add one thing to your drawing every interval of time.  If you don’t get it, you get a point.  Once you get to a certain amounts of points you declare yourself the loser and you start over.  I suggest writing down how long you were able to go so you can try to beat your high score in the future.

Don’t worry about the drawing being good.  The goal of this is just to pass time.  The hard part of the game shouldn’t be drawing well it should be the thinking up of new things to add in the interval of time you have to think of it.

Base drawings could be a stick figure (you can add glasses, a hat, etc.), a house scene, a cat, or any other simple drawing.

Do Your Homework

Try to get as much homework done during class as possible.  If your teacher doesn’t approve, cover up your homework with your notes whenever she looks.  It may seem like you aren’t getting anything done, but you’d be surprised how much homework you can actually get done.

If you are taking a foreign language class or need to study vocabulary in English, memorize these words during boring classes.  You can also set to memorize a random string of numbers like pi or e.  This is a cumulative thing you can do whenever you’re bored in class.

Play Paper and Pen Games

If there’s two things you have in school, it’s paper and pens.  Look up some Paper and Pen games on the internet.  Some will be possible to play by yourself, but most will be two player.  If you are bored enough you can play both sides of the game.  Pretend to be two different people and play the game in that sense.

Learn how to never lose in Tic Tac Toe.  Play as both players over and over again until you learn how to not lose.  Always place the first X in the same place and modify the space you place the O in.  From here just figure out how to keep going that makes in impossible for you to lose.

If you carry around a messenger bag, backpack, or binder print off Sudoku sheets from the internet and stick them in there.  Whenever you get bored, pull one out and start playing.

Play Video Games

There are many ways to play video games in class.  Possibly the most common is to download games onto your graphing calculator and pretend to be doing math work.  If you don’t have the proper cable to download games, most TI graphing calculators come with the Puzz Pack app.  Block Dude can be fun if you’re really bored.

You can also bring in a handheld game console and play it while trying to cover it up.  It’s obviously best to bring the smallest handheld you own.  A GameBoy Micro is a really good choice, but one of the best choices is the Dingoo A320.  Not only is it small, but you can have many, many games on it and you don’t have to change cartridges when you want to switch games.

Listen To Music

If you school allows hats you have it really easy.  Just wire your cap with earbuds and the teacher will never know you are listening to music.

If you aren’t so lucky and your school doesn’t allow hats, you’ll have to be more creative.  One great technique is to wear long sleeves and wire one earbud through your sleeve and into your palm.  Rest your head on your hand and fit the earbud into your ear.  Not only will your music be hidden, but you also can fall asleep in this position!

  3. Our education system sucks pretty hard right now and the majority of classes are classes you don’t learn anything in. Besides, nothing wrong with waiting time out after, say, a standardized test you completed early with these suggestions.
