Tips to Reduce Monthly Expenses

During financially difficult times, sometimes it’s confusing to figure out which areas of your monthly budget should be adjusted to make ends-meet at the end of each month. The following tips can help teach you how to reduce your monthly expenses without feeling as though you need to sacrifice the comforts of your lifestyle just to save money.

Reduce Monthly Expenses – Tip 1

In the age of modern technology and the information super-highway, household monthly communication bills are by far the more extensive, and usually one of the more expensive, categories in your monthly household budget.

This category of the monthly household budget includes charges for services such as, home phone usage, Internet usage, cable or satellite television usage, cell phone usage (talk, text, and web), as well as renting movies on-demand, and a variety of other fun services we enjoy during our monthly communication user experiences.

One of the quickest ways to reduce your monthly expenses in this category of the monthly budget is by bundling up your services through one service provider in order to get the best possible rate on the services you use most frequently, instead of paying different companies for each type of service, individually.  Not only will you save money each month by not having to pay each service provider separate taxes and surcharge service fees, which are typically posted to your monthly billing statement “in addition” to the actual amount of services you’re using each month, but you may also qualify for larger discounts on per service purchased basis when these services are combined with other services that are provided by only one service company.

Reduce Monthly Expenses – Tip 2

Typically, the next largest monthly expense that can be adjust with ease is the grocery bill.  To reduce your expenses in this budget category, consider purchasing necessary grocery items such as, meats, cheeses, breads, and canned goods in bulk quantities and any other grocery items that can be easily stored for longer periods of time in order to reduce your per item cost throughout the month.

With respect to purchasing meat products in bulk, many meat products (ex: steaks, chicken breasts, or pork chops) can be purchased in larger quantities and you can then separate these meat products into smaller individually wrapped portions to store them in the freezer at home.  To do this, use freezer paper wrap or freezer bags to individually wrap the number of meat products you will need per serving and then thaw out only the meat products you need for each meal.

Reduce Monthly Expenses – Tip 3

In addition to home grocery expenses, the everyday costs of eating on the run can drive up your monthly expenses and unfortunately, this category of monthly expenses is often overlooked when budgeting for household expense because most people never truly calculate the exact amount of money they spend on these purchases each month.  To reduce this budgetary category from driving you into the poor house, make a conscientious effort to pack your lunch and snacks, and bring your morning drink or coffee with you each day to work, instead of spending money at the local deli or drive-thru.  This monthly expense reduction tip alone can help dramatically reduce your expenses by up to twenty percent of your monthly budget and can substantially help pad your bottom line for later down the road.
