The Convertible Laundry and Utility Room
Depending on its size and location in the house, the laundry room can be transformed to function in different ways.

The laundry room is one of those private areas in the house that seems to attract all sorts of stuff — related and unrelated. It is a favorite ditching area for laundry, soiled linen, items that need relocation, discarded bagged souvenirs, spill over storage, and items that you are trying so hard to keep out of sight. It may also serve as a pet area. Because of the commonly used vinyl flooring, many individuals put their kitty litter box in the laundry are, and others use it as a detention pen for their disobedient pets. Depending on its size and location in the house, the laundry room can be transformed to function in different ways. It can also be a utility room, mudroom, or even hobby and craft room.
Whether your room serves only as a laundry hub, or it doubles and even triples its functions to accommodate other purposes, your family needs to be able access it easily. In order to limit the time you spend in this area you may have to reorganize an existing room or, if you are able, add another improved space to serve your other household needs. Most of us must learn to manage with whatever space we have, but with certain creativity and careful planning there are ways to create a convertible laundry or utility room that genuinely works best for the family.

Lacking a room to devote to laundry, my laundry basket lives in the hall, my washing machine in the kitchen and my tumble dryer in my shed (can’t put the washing machine there too as there’s no water supply and running one across the garden to the shed would be expensive).

Well that is a very good idea, but I’d say it’d have been better if you put up one more pic!

When space is limited we have to make good use of each area.

Would love to have a laundry room, but similar problems to Bruce.
