Shabby Chic Decorating Finds on a Dime

Shabby Chic affords a mixing and matching of pieces and patterns that makes it easier on the budget than some other styles.

What is Shabby Chic? According to Wisegeek.com, “Shabby chic refers to a type of design and decorating style that incorporates using furniture, sofas and pieces of art from older design periods, specifically ones that look a little bit worn, in order to create a pleasingly aged but elegant design scheme.”

In other words, the old has become new again, and the look is not about everything being “matchy matchy” perfect; it is more about your own personal likes and tastes.  This style lends itself to those on a budget and also those who love to be creative.  In fact, you may already have a stash of decorating possibilities just waiting for your touch!

For example, old sheets or towels can be cut into strips and made into rugs, like these:

Also, think of outdoor things that may already be weathered and just right as a focal point in the room.  Take this shutter, for an example:

Thrift stores normally seem to have a variety of baskets that lend themselves well to shabby chic decorating, too. Take a look at what may be done with an elongated basket, some old jars and flowers:

I love the romance and femininity of this style, and I hope to find many more fun and inexpensive ways to decorate!
