Remodeling Your Kitchen on a Dime

If you are ready to remodel your kitchen and you think you cannot afford it, well think again. This article gives off some tips to make your kitchen look beautiful without draining your pockets.

Did you know that we spend more time in the kitchen than anywhere else? We socialize with our families, have meals, cook, and do many other activities inside our kitchen. When individuals are ready to try a new look in the kitchen, there are several ways to change its appearance and feel. However, remodeling your kitchen can cost a small fortune, if you do not find the right deals. Here are some ways that you can change the look of your kitchen without breaking the bank.

When you start your project, first find out what look at what you are trying to achieve. Do you want something traditional, more modern? Maybe you are looking for a country feel or a classic look. Find what look fits the personality of your home and then begin looking through several home improvement stores, discount centers that specialize in home remodeling, your local newspaper or Craigslist ad if you are achieving a more classic look, and scratch and dent stores for your appliances. Make sure you not only find the best deal on all of your remodeling needs but also find things such as appliances, faucets, and fixtures that are cost efficient. This way you will be saving an abundance of money over the lifetime of your home.

For things like your cabinets, look at refacing them with either refinishing them if they were crafted out of wood or if like most of us, our cabinets are made out of a pressed particle board which is usually painted either white or some other color. You can take these and clean them up with a bit of soap and some water, use a paint remover or sand your cabinets to take the finish off, and then use a wood finish if your cabinets are made from wood or a nice touch of paint for particle boards. Furthermore, you can spruce them up with some different handles for your cabinets and kitchen drawers to give them a new look. Another idea is to paint your cabinets a creamy color and then use a wood stain to give your cabinets an antique look.

Replacing your kitchen floors can cost a lot of money depending on if you buy laminate floor cover or tiles. The look can be changed by putting a few coats of paint on the laminate floors or by taking particle boards and using the same procedure to give it an antique look like you can do with the cabinets.  If you are more into buying your flooring from a home improvement store, then find tile or laminate flooring that you like that are on clearance. This can also help you save a lot of money when you are replacing your floors.

You cannot forget your kitchen walls; however, you do not want to make your entire space look too busy. Try looking for a paint that is neutral and will complement the rest of your kitchen. If you try to use something like wallpaper or decals on top of your paint, then the entire scene would clash. Your best colors are ones that are either white, off white, or colors that are a few shades lighter than what you are using throughout the rest of your kitchen.

Kitchen fixtures such as faucets and lights can be found on clearance racks at many home improvement stores. Find ones that will complement the rest of your kitchen to give it that polished feel. As for your appliances, there are many company stores that sell scratch and dent items. They work just as good as the appliances that you find in places like Best Buy and Lowes; however, they have slight cosmetic damage. When you get scratch and dent appliances, you can save hundreds of dollars off what they would normally cost. Make sure that these are energy and water efficient, this way you can save more money off of your utility bills in the future.

Remodeling your kitchen doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. There are many ways to give your new kitchen that updated look while finding great deals on what you need to achieve it. Because your kitchen is the heart of the home, and it deserves to give off a warm, wonderful feel.
