Punch Up a Room or Two or Three
Punch up a room or two or three while you are about it. One thing usually calls for another and before you know it your house is all spruced up. Don’t these small inexpensive updates to make your home more attractive and comfortable make you feel good? The whole family will appreciate the home more when it is bright, cheerful and cozy. Have fun with your home and enjoy the action.
Punch Up a Room or Two or Three
When you want a quick update in the kitchen, give the backsplash a wipe down, prime it, then paint over the tiles and grout for a fresh new look. Use a high adhesive primer and two coats of varnish to seal and you have it. If that’s not enough to suit you, paint your cabinets and put on new door handles. Match your new painted tiles or use a contrasting color. If you go this far a change of curtains might be appropriate. Try tie backs or cafe style.
Change the look of your bedroom without painting by draping the wall behind your bed with a colorful fabric. You can run up a the fabric on a curtain rod or paste it to the wall. Make curtains for the windows with the same fabric. Paint the inside of a book case with matching or contrasting paint and organize books by size and color. Give the shelves a few pops of color with vases and knick knacks.
Use lamps with neutral colored shades and compact fluorescent light bulbs in warm or soft white to avoid a harsh glare, which is the last thing you want in your bedroom. Have a separate reading corner with lamp and a comfortable chair, or two if hubby enjoys reading in a cosy setting. And don’t forget to open your windows often to bring in fresh clean air. A done deal and what a difference.
Okay, we are in the family room, it’s where the gang congregates and spends most of it’s leisure time. How about a window of green plants to lighten things up and clean the air? Don’t overcrowd the area, Leave plenty of room for movement and relaxation. If the room is crowded you might consider moving a piece or two of furniture out. Put up curtains of an organic material. (cotton) To save money buy the fabric and make them yourself.
Try not to have any flame retardant material in the house. It gives off noxious fumes which can cause allergies, nausea and headaches. That scented bathroom means it is at it’s unhealthist. The scented smell is evidence of strong chemicals in the cleaners. Try soap and vinegar. New PVC shower curtains can also emit toxins. Hang a curtain made from bamboo or hemp. Ikea sells them. Enjoy your home and make it comfortable and healthy for your family. It can be perfectly simple without any extravagance and still be your family’s castle.
