One way to make someone feel comfortable in his room is to paint it in his favorite colour. Different personalities have certain documented preferences with regard to the colour of their walls. White allows any wall decoration or picture to fit in. When one leaves the room, one can then take the decorations away.

However, budget allowing for painting, the best practice is to paint people’s spaces in their preferred colour, since it leads to a positive atmosphere. It gives them a sense of ownership and belonging. At home it leads to a happier family; and at work it may even lead to increased productivity: A happier employee is a more productive employee, it is said.
