How to Keep Your Bathroom Dry and Mold Free

No matter how often or how well you clean your bathroom, high humidity creates warm, moist air that can produce mold when it condenses on cold bathroom surfaces.
Here are a few suggestions to help prevent mold growth in your bathroom:
- Removing carpets will stop dampness from laying around: Use flooring that doesn’t hold moisture and use a bath mat for standing on when getting out of the tub or shower. Bath mats can be hung to dry and flooring such as tile, wood, or ceramic can be wiped up easily.
- Use your vent fan and if you don’t have one, one should be installed: Opening a bathroom window will blow most of the moisture back into the room and in the cold winter this can cause more condensation.
- Also, condensation can build up on the inside of the bathroom window freezing it shut.
- If your ventilation problem is bad invest in a dehumidifier: It will pull the moisture out of the air preventing condensation build up on cold tile and porcelain surfaces in the bathroom.
- Many people like to keep tropical potted plants in the bathroom because they thrive on humidity. Remove them. The moist soil is a breeding ground for mold spores and fungus.
- Check for leaks: Even the smallest constant leaks can cause great damage.
- Keep an eye on all silicon seals: If they are discolored from mold they should be replaced and check for mold behind old silicon before replacing.

Get a timer for exhaust fan so you can let it run while you are away.

Unfortunately, mold is a fact of life in bathrooms. Washing, bleaching, scrubbing, and other common efforts to control or eliminate mold in bathrooms are pretty much futile.
However, I have found a product that actually does control the mold, in fact as far as I can tell, it actually kills the mold and the web site says it kills the spores too. Thats probably why its effect lasts so long.
I use a 5 gram packet every other month and there is no mold growing in my shower or in the bathroom. It’s called odorxit clo2 and you can get it on the web.
Hope this helps your alergies.
