How to Get Rid Of Mold

Mold is so unappealing, it’s gross,it’s slimy. It’s something we had rather not think about. reports of killer molds are largely unfounded but fungi can aggravate allergies such as asthma. Studies have found that mold may be linked to headaches, stomach problems, memory loss and depression. Mold is an aggravation we don’t want to have around. Here are some good tips to get rid of the stuff.

To remove mold from walls and bathroom tiles or any hard surfaces, use a sponge dipped in warm water mixed with a spoonful of dish detergent. You can also use diluted bleach, but never use more than one cup to a gallon of water to clean the area. Wear a mask over your mouth and nose to avoid breathing in invisible spores of mold. Masks are available at most hardware’s or Building supply stores. Throw away any porous items like books and magazines it they are contaminated with mold. They are much too difficult to clean.

Mold ends up in the damp areas of your home. A damp spot is all it takes for mold to reproduce and form colonies. That’s why mold is most common in bathrooms. You can install exhaust fans that blow out moist air, or use common fans and leave windows and doors open after showering.

Make sure to vent appliances like clothes dryers and stoves, to the outside of the house.

A humidifier should keep humidity at levels below 60 percent. You can find a device called a hygrometer at most hardware’s. It measures relative humidity and is very inexpensive. Be sure to keep the humidifiers collection bucket drained regularly. Use an HEPA filter in your air conditioner. It will trap mold spores. Keep drip pans clean and empty them often.

Don’t plant thick foliage around the foundation of your house and remove dead leaves promptly to avoid moisture. Skip carpeting in basements and bathrooms, if you must, use area rugs which can be washed and dried often. Be quick to clean up spills. Mold can usually be prevented when a wet area is thoroughly dried within a day or two after a spill or leak.

If you have a large area of mold,or the house has a musty smell and you suspect mold is hiding within walls or in the ventilation system, you should consider hiring a mold professional to do the cleanup. Check his references and ask him to follow the clean-up guide from a government organization such as the EPA.

  15. I always thought humidifiers were a bit expensive, though I know I used to sleep in a room with mold on the walls: the walls I slept next to.We got rid of it by painting the walls with Kills, and then an overcoat of white, and then painted over that with a beige-like color that was both a mold deterrent, or so we were told, and the color we wanted. Good tips ^.^
