Home Decorating – on a Budget
With imagination, possibilities are limitless.
Give your home a personality by choosing the right design accessories. Coming up with the design that is most pleasing to you, and therefore most expressive of your own personality, need not be costly either.
There are two approaches you can take that are easy and budget-friendly. If you’re a fond of collecting, you can put together a collection of items that will eventually add up to the home design of your desire. Or, you might want to do it the thrifty way by letting a room grow from the seed of well-crafted furniture, say a couch.
A third approach is to have a keen eye for the ornamental value of everyday things, like the flowers in your garden.
Frugal decorating is for those who have to consider how far the budget can go, and that means most of us.
But even in the best of times, the smart homemaker won’t want to spend all her money on an entire room of furnishings, including accessories, all in one shot.
Here are some tips for on a budget decorating:
• Watch out for furniture sales. A lot of good very serviceable, not to mention, beautifully designed furniture and accessories can come very cheaply from flea markets, bargain sales and garage sales.

• Allow your decorating style to evolve. Do the best with what you have instead of acquiring furniture pieces on an impulse. Look through your storage rooms, closets and make an inventory of all your pictures, knickknacks, furniture and other belongings. Then paint, refinish, or buy some cheap fabric and throw it over a piece.

• Paint your furniture! Crafts stores sell acrylic paints cheaply and after a couple of projects, you’ll be able to mix up the colors you already have and invent some new ones.
