Designing Your Room Sexy

When you bring your man to you place, make him feel comfortable.

Men will snuggle in happily if you apartment puts them at ease. Try having these around:

  • A comfortable chair (any man would love to slide into a recliner or a chair with an ottoman).
  • King-size bed, or extra-long queen size. This exudes active loving.
  • Long, cushy sofas (for extended cuddlings)
  • Well stocked bar (dry vermouth, gin, scotch, bourbon, his favorite beer, or soft drinks if he’s not a drinker.)
  • Audio player—and headsets for sense-pleasing listening
  • Men’s magazines (to keep him busy while you’re cooking or dressing)
  • Shaggy rugs or huge pillows – for lazy afternoons
  • A working fireplace, logs and kindling handy

Unless you man requests it, avoid the deathly gothic colors, pink chintz, or busy florals. These designs may look appealing to some, but they make most men “itchy.” Colors that appeal to men are ivory, bone-beige rust, gray, earth, smoky blues, and red. Textures they crave include leather, suede, velvet, and fur. Men seem to react more to the way the room feels than the way it looks. Stress comfort and coziness over chic design. Throw out china knick knacks and donkey plant holders.

Your room can inspire romance. A romantic look needn’t depend on pink damask and plaster nymphs. Try these decorating hints:

  • Soft, flattering lighting (indirect light works best, but low-level lamps with dim, bulbs will also create a warm mood. Candles give a romantic glow, too)
  • Lush green plants (aside from creating a tranquil effect, greenery creates a garden-of-Eden climate – passionate!
  • Good, soft bed linens (solid shades, art noveau designs, designer prints, or even animal prints will work. Satin sheets feel good and are fun—as long as the rest of your room doesn’t recreate an Early Bordello look. Teensy florals or circus-clown designs may not look appealing to a man, although some jaded man might find these quirky characters a turn-on.)
  • Tall candles- to be lighted in the dark of the night
  • A mirror— for erotic glimpses
  • An exotic, authentic print of a classic Oriental passion scene (But do be careful not to create an overbearing harem effect with too much erotica on display!)
  • Stereo controls within reach of bed
  • A breakfast tray for lazy mornings
  • Titillating extras: water pillow? Fur or feather bedding? an ornate brass headboard? Subtle strobes? A lava lamp? Hmmmm… toys?
  • Heavy window coverings – to screen out light and shut in privacy; romantic shutters, flowing draperies, anything but those dumb Venetian blinds!

Your room should be a world unto itself — a quiet, cushioned place where lovers have an endless night to explore one other.
