Decorating with Color

You can make your home look more beautiful, and save money, by utilizing color.
There are so many beautiful colors we can decorate our homes with, but sometimes we don’t know where to start.
Let me give you some ideas to make your home as lovely and colorful as you want it to be. Materials are not so expensive unless you go to designer stores. You can find beautiful fabric at good prices if you shop around. I like to use knit fabrics for my seat covers because it fits so well, but you can buy any kind that you like.
Wal-Mart
is inexpensive, and they always have a good selection of material. I know high end decorators would shun Wal-Mart, but hey, most of us like the low prices.
Sea Dreams:
- Pale yellow walls
- Blue couch
- Soft green chair
- Cover a chair in material of yellow, green and blue.
- Blue curtains.
- Area rug, soft green
- Cover you pillows in solid colors of, yellow, blue and green.
- Arrange you furniture in a comfortable manner. Add a few accessories and enjoy your handiwork
Uptown Mod:
- White walls
- Red couch
- Black chair
- Chair of mixed colors, red, black and white.
- Red curtains
- A fitting area rug would be white with touches of black or black with touches of white.
- Cover your pillows in solid colors of red, black and white
- Add a few black accessories and you have a beautiful room.
Earthy Tones:
- Beige walls
- Brown couch
- Beige chair
- Cover a chair in brown, beige and orange.
- Orange curtains
- Area rug, brown
- Cover your pillows in solid colors of, brown, beige and orange.
Get The Blues:
- White walls
- Bright blue couch
- Chairs one shade lighter blue than couch.
- Blue and white curtains
- Darker blue area rug
- Cover your pillows in solid colors, light blue, medium blue, dark blue and white
An Antique Feel:
- Antique cream walls
- Mauve sofa
- Cover one chair in light creamy gold.
- Cover one chair in mauve and light creamy gold.
- Light creamy gold curtains.
- A mauve area rug would look good here.
- Cover pillows in, solid colors of mauve, soft gold and cream.
Couch and chair covers are easy to make. Spread material over couch or chair to be covered. Tuck it in carefully to fit area. Hand stitch, and make sure it fits the way you want, then trim the excess, and sew on your sewing machine. If you have no sewing machine you can sew it by hand.
It just takes longer. If the bottom doesn’t come down in a straight line, you can make a long ruffle or a straight piece of material to attach to the bottom to make a straight line on the floor. Fit the material around the pillows and cut to fit. Sew on three sides and leave one side open to insert the pillow, then tuck in the raw edges and sew together.
There you have beautifully covered furniture, a colorful living room, and you didn’t have to spend a fortune to do it.

I like the blues best. Blue is my favorite color but I never thought of the different shades, and how it would go with white walls. That would be a totaly beautiful living room.

Good sugestions here. I realy like the Sea Dreams. I have been thinking about redoing my living room and the green would look so good.I didn’t think about covering my couch and chairs myself but the way you explained I know I could do it, and knit fabric is not expensive. I realy appreciate the plan as you have given it. It makes it easier for someone like me who knows nothing about decorating and making chair covers.
