Building a Home Wet Bar to Improve Your Business
If you are looking to add value to your home, the addition of a wet bar may be a very wise investment. In a time where the economy is struggling, the ability to entertain guests in your home may be a much more cost effective method than traditional business dinners. A home wet bar adds an additional touch of class and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere for entertaining and discussing business.

Step 1
Design your home wet bar to meet your needs. If you intend on having prospective business partners in your home, you want to keep things comfortable and professional. A wet bar that is designed to be completely self contained, including refrigeration and plumbing, is ideal because it allows you the opportunity to actually spend time with your guests rather than running about gathering more ice or cleaning glasses.
Create an atmosphere that is conducive to business. Having a smooth top on your bar will facilitate the signing of contracts. Consider installing a dry erase board on the wall so you can map out ideas to your clients. If you use slide shows or Power Point presentations, consider adding a roll down screen or a television with the appropriate video connections. The addition of extra lighting and dimmer switches will allow greater control over the feel of the room and make the process of viewing media presentations much easier. Several comfortable chairs in the room will facilitate easy conversation and the ability to move away from the bar stool seating for a more businesslike atmosphere. By adding these little extra touches, your home wet bar can be your board room outside of the office.
Step 2
Hire qualified contractors to do the job. A skilled contractor can build a home wet bar from your design and have it ready for operation within a few days. They also have the ability to point out ideas you might have overlooked or problems that may arise from certain points in your design.
Hiring a qualified contractor will insure that your home wet bar design meets local building and safety codes as well. Many skilled carpentry contractors will also have the ability to handle the necessary plumbing and wiring jobs that accompany the installation of a home wet bar.
Step 3
Work before play. After your home wet bar is designed and built, you still have choices that must be made. If you intend to entertain clients and other business people, you should understand that not everyone enjoys a mixed drink or a beer while discussing business. Keep your home wet bar well stocked with non alcoholic alternatives, such as soda or juice, to accommodate these guests.
Step 4
Relax a little. While you may be conducting business matters in your home bar, it doesn’t have to be a completely dull experience. Add a little of your own personality to your home bar. The addition of a billiard, ping pong or foosball table is a great way to make your home bar more inviting for non business meetings or to break the ice with new clients. If you find those options are a little out of your price range, consider adding a gaming system with a few non-violent games. By taking these extra steps, you and your family can enjoy your home bar on a day to day basis and business partners with children can feel more at ease when you invite the whole family over for a business dinner.
