Raising Air Plants for Money

Why air plants make a good second income.

Air plants, or epiphytes, are plants that obtain all of their food from air and sunlight alone. They need no soil, taking all their moisture from the atmosphere. Found chiefly in tropical regions where the air is very humid, they can also be grown in colder climates if properly taken care of.

The air plant will die after flowering but in return, produces pups for raising new plants. Because there are usually multiple pups, these plants create an ample supply for decorating and selling.

One of the most popular types of display using air plants is gluing the root inside of a seashell so it appears that the plant is growing from the shell. Glue will not harm the plant since the root is not the source of food. Other types of creative displays can be rocks, wood or any type of knickknack.

Restaurants and shops often feature these plants at their checkout counters as an affordable impulse buy. Sales also do very well at flea markets and festivals. Use your creative side to manufacture ideas for a second income, adding the beauty of the outdoors to your home, as well.
