You must decide what type of pond you want before you pick your pond fish. If  you decide you want a small pond you can put Mosquito fish in it which resemble the guppy.  They prefer mild temperatures and do not like the cold.  They will need several plants for them to hide in.   The Bitterling  fish is great to maintain Eco balance in a pond.  They are a perfect choice for a small pond and do well with Mosquito fish.

You can make a goldfish pond and stock it with Fantails, Oranda and Comet, Shubuokin, Ryukin, Oranda and Black Moors.  You can also make a Koi pond.  Check out your options and take your time in deciding what type of fish pond you want.  Goldfish ponds are beautiful and so are Koi ponds.  Your fish pond will be around a long time so make sure you get the one that is right for you.

The American Flagfish is a good addition to any pond as they will eat the algae that will form.  They do well in ponds of all sizes and they are tolerant of different water conditions.  The American Flagfish is a hardy eater and they will eat live food, flake food and algae tablets.

The Rainbow Dace is good for smaller ponds as they will only grow to be about 3 inches long.  They will not destroy the plants in the pond.  They will not be able to be left in the pond in the winter so you must bring them in and put them in an aquarium.

The most popular pond fish are goldfish and they are suited for every size pond.  Goldfish will live for many years if they are well taken care of.

The Comet goldfish is the most popular pond fish.  They are orange, flame colored and white.  The Fantail is very popular as a pond fish.  Another popular pond fish is the Orandas which looks like the Fantail.  The Comets are the hardiest and they are the best goldfish for areas with very cold winters.  They will not cause any harm to your other fish.  The fancy Fantails are really good choices for very big water ponds.  They do not do well in the same pond with Comets or Koi.

Koi are very popular pond fish but they are not as hardy as goldfish.   Koi must have a large pond that  holds at least 1,000 gallons of water.   They are on the aggressive side.  Koi can catch diseases fairly easy and they are destructive when it comes to plants.  Koi can stand the pond to be covered with ice but you must make sure there is one hole in the ice for them.  Koi are still one of the favorite pond fish.

The Orfe is a pond fish but they are not as popular as goldfish or Koi.  They are still a good addition to a pond.
