Vines: Beautiful Climbers to Enhance Your Garden

When you’re in a tight spot and the only way to grow is up, these annual vines create a curtain of color in just a few weeks.
Hyacinth Bean Vine
Attractive flowers, stems, leaves and fruit-this vine has it all. Dark green, purple-veined foliage with burgundy stems sport large spiked clusters of pea-like blossoms that mature into ruby-purple seed pods. And since it’s a legume, the vine adds nitrogen (helpful to growing plants) to the soil.

Morning Glory
The wonderful, old-fashioned flower blooms in blue, pink, purple, red or white, and the vine will reach 10 feet or more within the first two months when planted in full sun. avoid soil conditions that are too fertile or moist, or you’ll end up with more foliage than flowers.

Moonflower Vine
In the late afternoon, buds unfurl into saucer-size (5-inch), alabaster-white flowers that last only until morning. The vine is covered with loads of buds that don’t all bloom the same night, so the flower show lasts all summer, perfuming the evening air with sweet fragrance.

Cypress Vine
Butterflies and hummingbirds love the nectar in cypress vine’s vibrant scarlet-red tubular flowers. It can climb to 20 feet but won’t shallow up everything in this path, and the feathery foliage gives it a beautiful appearance.
