The Garden Behind My House
Having a patch of greenery or for that matter a flower bed or a small garden gives a nice feel. Besides, gardening is a good way to unwind and de-stress!
I love gardening! There is a small plot of open space behind my house; I thought it would be a good idea, if I make this into a small garden. This plot is quite small, yes very small. So it is called small garden. The plot is very barren; stony which can hardly support any vegetables or plants I contemplate to grow. Still then, I have cleared out the weeds, removed the trash and other garbage that was strewn around.

I did this little exercise just for the love of doing and being able to remain connected with nature. The plot was then plough, the soil was prepared by mixing burned ash of weeds and other manures. The soil was ready for planting. Meanwhile, I always feel amazed at the pace the weeds grow. They don’t seem to be sleeping. They sure never sleep because they grow healthier and faster than the few vegetables I am growing!
I found watering the garden as one of my favorite pastime activity and I have done this regularly. The plot being ladened with more stones than with soil, water drains off fast without retaining for long, leaving the soil dry. So as day progresses, heat from the sun become harsher and slowly heats up the stone chips. The prevailing harsh condition became little too much for the delicate vegetables I am growing. Alas, in the process my vegetables got cooked from the garden itself especially those herbaceous group of plants. Ready to serve kind of thing! The poor plants unable to go through this rigor everyday died prematurely without being productive.
What a miserable way of dying! Little wonder, what one could possibly hope from a stony plot? May be it will do well for a rock garden but I am less inclined at the moment for that! Still then, I found out all is not lost because gardening is one way of keeping me connected to nature in a small way. I also found out that I can grow some sturdy vegetables which can cope well to the condition.
