Ten Great Ways to Spend Quality Time with Kids
Weekends and other holidays offer great opportunities for working parents to bond with their children better. Here are ten activities that you and your little child can do together and enjoy.
Planting herbs
If you have some outdoor space, then this activity can be fun. If you live in apartments, you could use an old sink to create a miniature garden for your little one. Plant herbs and expose your child to the joy of gardening. Herbs are a good option as they are small, grow quickly and come in varied fragrances.
Art
Kids of that age are attracted to color. Give your child manageable sheets of paper and colors. Use techniques like carved potatoes, cotton painting, vegetable printing to make painting and coloring even more fun.
Visit a farm
Take your kids to a rural farm outside the city. Make sure that you see as many kinds of farm animals as you can. Children would surely enjoy to see all the animals that they usually see only in books.
Sand play
Sand and water are two things that most children love to feel and play with. Create a small sand pit in your backyard and you can have loads of fun with children. You can make sand castles or just mix up sand and water and let your children create what they please.
A drive around town
A casual drive around town can also be fun for the kids. Plan to take them for a simple picnic or an ice cream, but keep that as a surprise. While you drive around town, point out the interesting things you see from your vehicle.
Family picnic
Picnics can be great fun, especially with the family. Arrange for a small family picnic, complete with food, books and games to play at the picnic venue.
Watching films
Watching films or children’s programs along with them is another great way of connecting with children better. Switch on their favorite program or CD and laugh along with them. It would surely make the day memorable for them.
Involving them in housework
While becoming a child with them is a great idea, allowing them to become adults with you can be even better. Give them simple tasks like cleaning, dusting or washing the vegetables. They are surely bound to enjoy this thoroughly.
Cook up simple dishes together
Involve your child in cooking. You could ask them to pour contents into the bowl or whisk things up. The cooking could get a little messy, but will undoubtedly be good fun.
Organize a home party
Dancing is another activity that most children enjoy. You can call over other children from the neighborhood if you wish. Or you could simply switch on the music and have a family party with your kids.
Children from the age group of 3-6 years are a special group. While at this age, children are trying to be independent, they also want to hold on to their parents for security. Their needs need to be met such that their independence comes with the confidence that you are there to bond, play and laugh with them.
