Sunflowers a Great Flower for Kids
Picking flowers is something my daughter loved to do. Now she is a little bit older and still likes picking them, but I want to teach her how to grow them to. After much thought, I decided on sunflowers as the best option for kids.
While many children will outgrow the picking flower stage and have an interest in something else, I decided to let my daughter keep her interest in flowers. However, the interest is on a different level now because I have taught her how to grow her own flowers now. Here are some of the reasons why I decided to select sunflowers, though, instead of any of the other flowers which are easy to grow. The first reason I opted for sunflowers is they are easy to grow. The second reason I decided to use sunflowers is the size they grow will often amaze many little kids. The final reason I have opted for this flower is these tend to attract a variety of birds so she can learn more about growing to provide for nature.
Now I know for me the first reason I like sunflowers for my kids to grow is they are easy to start. When you see how easy these are to grow you will understand. For example, the sunflowers my daughter started off with germinated in about six days. Now the plants will be rather small at first so you need to use caution and try to plant them in an area where they will not be stepped on or washed out as seeds. Not only will the rapid germination prove to be good, but it will also make it easy for your children to see the results and not get distracted by the plants taking months to grow.
Sunflowers are often one of the largest plants you can grow. This size is something you will like to see because it makes it easy for your kids to be amazed by the size. With this size you can see your kids looking up at the plants amazed, but also liking to look at them. Without this type of results your children can think these plants are just like the other flowers they have and not the towering giants the sunflowers grow into.
Birds are another reason why I like having my daughter grow sunflowers. She loves watching birds and seeing them eat. When you have sunflowers you find the birds will be drawn to your yard. When you have this, you can educate your children about how the flowers help provide food for the birds, but also teach them about the birds who are coming to the yard.

Picking flowers is something many kids, boys and girls, like to do. However, you will find they can outgrow this stage at times and want to move onto video games or other things to do. This is when my daughter told me she did not want to move onto the video games like her friends, but wanted to continue her love for flowers. I supported this one hundred percent and decided I would make it easier for her to enjoy flowers by teaching her to grow them. I know for me the best flower for her to learn with is sunflowers and I have told you the reasons why I feel this is a great flower for kids to learn with.
