For the not-so-green thumb who enjoys houseplants.
If you are anything like me, you love house plants. If you are anything like me, most of them fade away despite your most valiant efforts. Green Plants seem to do better than flowering plants in my home. I’m not sure why, and I’ve given up trying to find the answer! I do know that I have found some plants that just thrive even in my home.
-
African Violet

Yes, it has flowers but is remarkably easy to care for. In fact, besides watering, (approx every 3-4 days) the only care it needs is to have the wilted flowers removed. They need medium to high light, but shouldn’t be directly in a window facing direct sunlight
-
Devil’s Ivy

This little beauty will grow even if it is root bound! It does well even if there is little light in the room in which it lives. It only needs watering about once a week and as an added bonus, it helps clean the air in your home.
-
Heartleaf Philodendron
May just be the king/queen of hearty house plants. They seem to survive even when neglected, but looks gorgeous when properly pinched and pruned. Lovely 3-4 inch leaves can be left to dangle on vine, or sent to grow up a support of your choice.
-
Cactus
They come in a variety of shapes and some have flowers. These babies hail from the desert, so forgetting to water them on occasion isn’t going to hurt them! Beautiful and practical.
-
Fern
You know these have to be hearty plants. They were in existence before and after dinosaurs! Some varieties are heartier than the others. Here is what to look for: Wood Fern, Autumn Fern, Korean Rock Fern, Shield Fern (they grow even in the fierce North winters) and the Japanese Painted Fern. Whichever you decide, you will have a lovely, hearty plant to be proud of.
-
Mother-in-Law-Tongue

Light, doesn’t like to be over watered. These plants are very hearty and easy to care for. It is Called Mother-in-law’s tongue because of its long, sharp, pointed leaves and it never leaves!
These plants are sure to bring a lot of beauty to your home. The fact that they are easy to care for makes them ideal for busy households. If you live where there is actually a winter, like I do, these plants are ideal. So, there are still plants to be had since summer is not over yet…get yours today!
