Project Tree-Planting

Reflection about the beauty and wonder of planting.

I never really thought of planting, be it trees or flowers as an exciting activity. Although I care a lot for the well-being of the environment, it never occurred to me to try planting. But all of this changed when my theology professor gave us a project…Project Tree-Planting!

My initial thought after our teacher said this was “Aww, tree-planting…This’ll be one boring project”. So, I gather all my strength and prepared for this activity.

I gathered all my gardening tools namely a rake, a pair of gloves, small trees to plant and a bunch of positive attitude. I then proceeded to my backyard garden and saw many beautiful flowers and trees. I seldom go to this part of my house because of “eerie” reasons, but that’ll be another story for you all. Going back, I settled my things and started digging. I’d have to say that digging is probably the most physically exhausting part of planting. Finally, I was able to dig out holes sufficient enough for my plants.

I carefully placed the plants into the holes and then covered their bottom parts. While doing so I felt a feeling that I must say, I never felt before. It was a feeling of joy and satisfaction. I don’t know why but I was happy at that time. It was like I was helping an old lady cross the street. I really felt good during and after I planted.

Weeks passed and I gradually saw my plants growing. I was so proud that I started planting again and again. And each time I plant I never fail to get that happy and satisfactory feeling.

And so, because of this tree-planting activity, I became more sensitive and emphatic towards our dying planet. So, let us all do our best in making our planet beautiful again for the well-being of all creations be it in the present or in the past. Maybe a simple act of tree-planting may revive our lonely planet.
