Simple to do and it works.
Here are some simple tips to remember when planting grass seed, following these tips will ensure your new grass will grow nice and thick.
- Prep the soil: Using a rake loosen the area where you will be applying the seed this will ensure the seed can root into the soil easily.
- Apply lots of seed, when I lay seed I can barely see the soil underneath. Roughly 80% of the seed you lay will grow so that’s why it’s important to put down a lot.
- Now for the most important step, after the seed is laid it is crucial that a layer of soil is applied on top roughly 1/4″. This is done so that the seed doesn’t wash away or that the birds don’t eat it all.
- Dampen top layer of soil every evening, be careful not to wash soil away.
Those are the steps you need to remember when planting seed, when your grass has grown to about 3″ in height it is important that you cut it the first time using only a weed trimmer, using a lawnmower will flatten the new grass and will hinder its growth. This works for me because after cutting it with a weed trimmer the blades of grass are much thicker. Comment below with your input.
