Natural Alternatives to Weed Killer

Weedkillers and other chemicals make some gardeners and landscapers hesitate when it comes to treating their lawn or garden. A few alternative methods try a more natural approach to eliminating weeds.
Keeping weeds out of your lawn or garden without using chemicals isn’t easy to accomplish. A few natural methods are still practiced by gardeners who say the key is persistence and time when it comes to eliminating weeds naturally.
Vinegar
A solution of vinegar mixed with a little water is applied to weeds as a natural pesticide. The solution is spritzed directly onto the weed over a period of days or until it kills the plant. Avoid accidentally spritzing any nearby plants you don’t won’t harmed, however, since the solution can burn them as well.
Salt Water
Salt and water mixed together can be an effective weed killer. Like vinegar, it requires reapplication and gardeners should avoid accidentally spraying any valued plants.
Black Tarp and Sunlight
Covering large areas or select sections of ground with black tarp can kill off weeds and other plants within the patch. The combination of dark, impenetrable material and heat from the sun effectively “fries” the plants beneath; even without sunlight, the tarp has a stifling effect on unwanted plants.
Eco-friendly weed elimination for gardens and lawns isn’t easy to maintain. Making the effort means time, patience, and effort to keep chemicals and pesticides from becoming part of your landscape routine.
