Indoor Plants for Winter Enjoyment

Create a “green” space in your home so you can enjoy plant life all year round. A few indoor plants are perfect for indoor gardening, bringing variety and color to your home all year round.

Plant enthusiasts can find a variety of green choices for indoor plant life, ranging from delicate varieties that are climate-sensitive to outdoor favorites preserved from the winter chill. Choose from a series of unique varieties and gardener’s favorites.

Amaryllis

Long pale green leaves and stunning blossoms make this plant a favorite around Christmastime. With a temperature-sensitive nature (and sometimes short life span) the amaryllis is a good choice for indoor gardening enthusiasts who enjoy the challenge of maintaining a beautiful and delicate selection.

Christmas Cactus

With dark and glossy branches and small flowers, the Christmas cactus is a more subtle houseplant in comparison to its prickly counterparts. The trailing leaves can create a hanging plant effect as it curves over the edge of its pot; like most cacti, it prefers a dry, reasonably warm atmosphere with an occasional watering.

Mexican Heather

Tiny leaves and miniature purple blossoms give this delicate plant an almost dainty appearance. A thick, almost shrub-like plant, it prefers a large pot and may need some branches trimmed to keep dead leaves at bay.

Poinsettia

The classic Christmas favorite, this dark green plant grows quickly with sturdy, almost tree-like branches to status as a dominant house plant. Its exotic red blossoms will return if the plant is treated to prolonged darkness over a period of time during its bloom season. Be careful about exposing house plants to the poinsettia, however, since digesting the plant is poisonous to many animals.

Enjoying plant life all year round keeps your green thumb busy and adds a pleasant touch to your home during the winter. Fill a space in your home with plants that will help satisfy your winter garden blues.
