How to Replace Automatic Sprinkler Heads

Replacing an automatic sprinkler head is very simple. Follow the next steps which explain exactly how to do this.

*First turn off the timer and close the shut-off valve. Cut the grass using a spade from around
the sprinkler head and roll the sod to the side. Carefully remove the dirt from around the
sprinkler connection fitting and the pipe.

*Unscrew the damaged or non-working sprinkler head from the nipple connector. Use pipe
tape to wrap around the threads of the new head. Then screw this in place and tighten the
joint with a wrench. You’ll want to test this prior to refilling the hole and replacing the
sod.

NOTE:
If there are areas of the lawn that are over-dry this may be caused from a faulty sprinkler
head. Try cleaning the sprinkler head. If this still doesn’t work, replace the sprinkler
head.
