Garden Scents Help Keep The Bugs Away – Companion Gardening
Using natural defenses in the garden eliminate the need for pesticides.
Companion Gardening and the Magical World of the Garden
Does the phrase, companion gardening, sound like friends gardening together? Friends do exist in the garden, but they are mostly of the spirit kingdom. Companion planting is about adding flowers to the vegetable garden, and arranging compatible plants.
A flower and vegetable garden
A border of geraniums and zinnias confuses would-be predators by camouflaging the scent of the vegetables within the interior garden. However, green beans don’t like really strong scents, and should be planted elsewhere away from the flower border.
Plant companions somehow make each other flourish. One of the most highly recommended companion plants is marijuana, which is especially compatible for potatoes. Planting nasturtium with the squash plants is a compatible arrangement; dill weed and basil goes well with tomatoes.
A nice border of flowers will help the entire garden. Zinnias, cosmos, geraniums and marigolds blend together well for an attractive and functional border. Each flower, casting out its own scent, deters insects from sensing the vegetable crop.

Companions include the nature spirits of ancient folklore. . .
Every plant growing inside of the garden has a representative spirit form called a deva. Each one represents a whole kingdom. A deva usually appears as an elemental in the shape of the vegetable it represents.
Devas are companions to the gardener, and it’s the gardener’s job to keep them happy. Don’t burn any fires nearby, and keep smelly compost heaps away from the garden. Devas don’t like these kinds of odors. Giving the elemental friends a little consideration goes a long way.
A separate place
The elementals like to have a place of their own. Leaving a sacred, untouched area gives these garden spirits a peaceful place to roam. The center of the garden is good place for the sacred spot, but it can go anywhere that’s convenient. Here is where the gardener can find these companions for a chat.
Weeds are only weeds if they are unwanted
Leaving a few weeds growing helps with drainage by bringing moisture and nutrients up to the top of the soil. In order to keep weeds under control, pluck off any seed heads that develop. Dandelions should be removed because of certain gases they emit.
Enjoying the garden is all about the approach
Some people regard gardening as drudgery. If only they knew the magical things that go on there, they might discover that the garden is an enchanted place to be.
