An overview of some possible types of garden fencing for the homeowner and gardener to choose from for their gardens.
Now that Spring is here, you might be thinking about gardens and garden fencing. The garden fencing you select will frame your beautiful flowers as if they are a picture. It reflects your artistic taste by framing the flowerbeds or providing a backdrop for them. There are many styles to select from. Wire or plastic border fencing is lightweight, inexpensive and easy to install. Although it can easily be pushed out of place, by children for example, it is easily repositioned as well. It is held in place by wire stakes inserted into the soil. Choose from a variety of styles and colors including the white picket fence in a 1 to 2 foot height to use as a border. Set off your flower beds from the grassy lawn surrounding your yard.
At the other end of the spectrum is the solid wood board fence. This can be natural, stained in a variety of colors or painted. If you want privacy, this is the garden fencing that can provide it. In addition, it makes a lovely backdrop for your taller flowers. Take your measurements and choose whatever thickness and height will complement your landscaping. This type of garden fencing can be topped off with a horizontally placed wooden top or pointed stakes.
The open style of wood rail fence separates your property from that of your neighbor. While it keeps no one (including your pets) in the yard, it is very attractive. Visualize a border of flowers running along the length of this type of garden fencing. While I say “wood” garden fencing, it may be actual wood, simulated wood now being manufactured out of recycled plastic or another easy care or no care material. Some of these new materials are as indestructible as the wrought iron garden fencing.
You may have a large area to fence in. The galvanized wire fence is designed to keep deer and smaller wild animals out of your garden. A chain-link fence is much heavier and cost prohibitive if you have a large area to enclose. On the other hand the lightweight garden fencing is nearly invisible from a distance and gives the illusion of your lot extending beyond its confines.
When it comes to elegance, there is nothing to surpass black wrought iron. Usually custom ordered, it can be any size and length. Enclosing a small garden and patio a black wrought iron fence behind a row of flowers is stunning. It can be placed at the four corners of your lot to decorate or at the corners of your flowerbeds. These are only two examples of what your imagination and black wrought iron can add to your yard. The only downside to wrought iron is the cost.
A recent development is bamboo garden fencing. Considered the “strongest” wood on the planet, this is categorized as one of the new “green” materials developed to save the planet. Sturdy, durable and beautiful, it continues to grow in popularity. Another new concept in garden fencing is the willow sweep. This comes in several styles developed basically to add definition and beauty to one segment of your yard. Usually the willow sweep style of garden fencing borders a small grove of trees or a grouping of one kind of plants. Garden fencing is evolving towards being environmentally friendly. The new concepts in addition to the ever popular styles gives you the homeowner myriad of possibilities to enhance the landscaping around your home.
