Down and Dirty

Are you feeling sluggish, possibly stuck in a rut, or maybe a little bored?
Are you feeling sort of sluggish, possibly stuck in a rut, or maybe a little bored? Have you been spending too much time indoors? Do you feel tied to your computer, laptop, television, cell phone, and various other electronic devices? If so, getting down and dirty may just make you feel better, pull you out of your rut, release you from electronic bondage, and lift your spirit.
Getting down and dirty to create a garden can be a relaxing and rewarding experience. You can grow your garden in the ground if you have the space available and if you are physically able to do so. However, if you live in an apartment or townhouse without land available for gardening or if you have physical limitations that make regular gardening impossible, you can still get down and dirty with container gardening.
If you go outside away from the many electronic devices that have a hold on you, leave the cell phone inside, and concentrate solely on planting some flowers, shrubs, herbs, or vegetables your mind can enjoy the relaxation it needs. Planting, especially in containers can be a very soothing experience. You will benefit from your “down and dirty” day in the months that follow.
As your garden grows it will provide you with an escape from your daily rut. It will give you an opportunity to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors. A flower garden or herb garden provides a pleasantly aromatic experience while maintaining it. You can bring the herbs and flowers inside to extend your enjoyment of your garden. While outside watering your garden, snipping herbs or picking vegetables you can enjoy a serenade from the birds.
As your garden grows and the flowers, herbs, and vegetables become bountiful you can enjoy the pleasure that comes from sharing your harvest with family and friends.
There really is something therapeutic about getting down and dirty in a garden. Gardening is both invigorating and relaxing. It can clear your mind, soothe your soul, and actually make you feel better by taking your mind off of any problems you may be experiencing.
