The weather these days is not getting better. It just seems to get hotter and hotter, and if you love gardening you must know that your garden is also suffering from the heat. If you’ve done everything to save it and still have a hard time doing so, then a change in gardening style should be your next approach. This can be achieved by acclimatizing your garden using desert landscaping. Not only is it cheap but the maintenance factor for it is almost never there.

With desert landscaping, hot weather or not, the plants will thrive on their own. You do not need to use a lot of humus and you almost certainly would not need to use it. The humus can be reserved for your more precious plants. Desert landscape suitable plants are those that do not need a lot of water. These plants would just need the sun and some soil to grown in.  Most of the plants do not even require good soil they actually do even better in poor soil like sandy soil.

Desert landscape plants are commonly referred to as the drought tolerant plants. These require only the sun and some soil to live in. An example of a drought resistant plant that is suitable to your desert landscaping is the “Longwood Blue” or also known as the blue mist.

The blue mist is capable of growing up to 2 meters. It is best suited to be placed in the rear or background portion of your desert landscaping because of its healthy height. Since these plants are not only capable of surviving the drought, they are also safe when winter approaches. They lay dormant during the cold season and bloom again when spring comes. The flowers of the blue mist are also very fragrant. This is a great addition to your desert landscaping as it can attract butterflies because of its fragrant flowers.

Now, let’s go on to the middle portion of your desert landscaping garden. There are quite a lot of drought resistant plants available. Here are the two most popular:

‘Autumn joy’ or ‘stone crop’– this plant is suitable for rock gardens and your desert landscaping. It has some foliage that resembles stones at a distance. It has leaves that have an earthly tone to it and certain varieties that even have an off white color. Not only does it have wonderful leaves, it is also capable of blooming brightly colored flowers. Again, this is another plant that attracts butterflies.

Moonbeam coreopsis– this bushy plant is well known for its long blooming flowers. It bears flowers that look similar to a daisy. The flowers are brightly colored and often have a light yellow tint to them.

The plants for your desert landscaping are not limited only to small shrubs. If you have the extra money then planting palm trees can help improve the look of your garden. It can also serve as a shade for the more delicate plants you want to put in your desert landscaping.

Of course, only your imagination is the limit. If you want you can even place rocks as a divider for the different segments of your desert landscaping or even have a small area with colored sand that is well raked. These elements will help provide a more stunning aesthetic appeal to your desert landscaping. The best part is that it requires very little cost and almost zero maintenance on your part.
