Compost is used in gardening and agriculture for soil amendment. Artificially composting will be needed in the cities for the purpose of gardening.
Compost is the remnant of biodegradable wastes. All biodegradable material will compost over a period of time. But not all feedstocks are suitable for backyard composting. The high temperatures required for composting will not be available in the backyard for feedstock decomposition. High temperatures are required for killing pathogens. Meat, dairy products and other non-vegetarian products cannot be composted in the backyard. We need to leave them for the thermophylic composting systems.
Compost means the aerobic decomposition of organic materials. All the material from plants and animals are called organic materials or biodegradable materials. They will decompose if left for enough time except some animal products.
Compost is the essential material for soil amendment used by farmers and gardeners. It can also be used for erosion control, wetland construction and as landfill cover. It used for improving drainage and stream reclamation.
The British Composting Association established certain standards for the composts, called the bsipas 100 certified by the British Standards Institute. These standards are made for raw materials, production techniques, quality control and testing. They ensure reliable, certified and quality assured composts.
