The scientific name of the African violet is Saintpaulia ionantha. The African violet is native to Tanzania.
These beautiful flowers are endemic to the Eastern Arc Mountains in Tanzania.
There are 22 wild species of African violets there. Only 2 or 3 of these were carried to the west. They were used to create all the hybrids that are commercially available now.

African Violet Won’t Bloom?
It’s not difficult to care for African violets. They need repotting every now and again. Sometimes when an African violet plant has not been blooming for a time, repotting the plant will encourage it to bloom. I recommend this eco-friendly gardening tutorial.

Adding fertilizer to the soil may also become necessary at times to encourage the plant to bloom. Buy a fertilizer that is designed for violets.
Good plant fertilizer should be readily available at your local farm and garden store.

Great article. My mom stopped growing them now. But when I was young she grew a lot of them. I seem to remember that she put them on my window sill.

They are really beautiful and very easy plants to have.. It is good to know that they don“t like too much water. I think it is better water on the saucer under the plant and pour away all that the flower has not used after a while.

It looks really great.I had one,but unfortunatelly,it didn’t last long, although I was taking care of it properly and by the book…
So,I don’t know where I made the mistake…
