Bonsai Plants was grown in Egypt thousands of years ago and then moved to China and Then to Japan. The Japanese polished and perfected the art of Bonsai. The Japanese use pruning, wiring, and careful attention. It becomes the root of tradition in Asian culture especially Japan and China. The art of bonsai are different by areas. In America, the concept and style is much freer than in China and Japan. That shows the tradition of Asian culture.
There are some care tips:
1) Place it in a warm and well lighted especially indoor bonsai because indoor bonsai are not tolerated with outdoor conditions. Bonsai need direct sunlight, from which they make their food. A lack of direct sun will damage them, causing weak foliage and other problems. They like to receive 5-6 hours of sunlight daily, whether inside or outside. All Bonsai love to be outside in the warmer months.
2) Be sure the containers drains before watering the plant but not until a bone dry. You can check to see if it needs water by pressing down by your finger firmly.
3) Do not fertilize when the soil mix is dry and do not over fertilized. It is same as a human being over take the vitamin because over fertilized may burn the roots. A small amount of fertilizers on a regular basis is the best plan.
4) Use a sharp scissors for smaller Bonsai and a big and sharp scissors to trim off large limbs or branches. There are many type of pruners at nursery store.
The size of Bonsai:
1) Mame: The smallest (1-3 inches tall)
2) Shohin: The height range is between 5-10 inches.
3) Chu or Chuhin: This size is in medium to large, the range is in between 16-24 inches.
4) Dai or Daiza: The largest size of Bonsai tree and can be over 40 inches tall.
