Bonsai: Miniaturized Plants

If ever you have wondered about the miniaturized things like animals and trees, we have a technique for gardening called bonsai to create miniaturized trees.
It looks very nice to have miniature trees exactly replicating their larger counterparts, in our house. These bonsai was first introduced by Chinese. Then it has spread to Japan. Now there are many bonsai collections around the world for tourism purposes.
Bonsai means container grown trees. They are not a different type of species rather they are miniaturized by using certain techniques to confine them to the small sized tray and other environment. It is not a dwarfed plant. But it is an actively growing tree or shrub intentionally made to confine to smaller space.
Cultivation of these plants was made by the wealthy people as their pastime.
The sizing of these plants is done by pruning of both leaves and roots. But it should be done with great care as the tree may get killed in the process. Only experienced people generally grow such plants.
The National Arboretum in Washington, DC contains the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum, an impressive collection of trees, some of them gifts from the Nation of Japan or foreign heads of state. The Arnold Arboretum in Boston, the Weyerhaeuser Corporation near Seattle, in Southern California the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino and the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC host a collection of Bonsai in the United States.
