Today we are here to discuss the hedge plants. But before we know what hedge plants actually are, it is important to know what the hedge means. A hedge is a wall primarily composed of certain plants.
The plants that are used for this purpose are called hedge plants and include most of the shrubs, but remember, most of them not all. The shrubs that are included among the hedging plants are deciduous and evergreen shrubs.
After having this introductory thing, let’s have a word about why these hedge plants are needed? The main purpose or you may say that the apparent purpose that the hedge plants serve is that they add up to the appearance of the house or the lawn. In other words, they usually considered to be decorative primarily in their practical functionality. However, moving to the deeper perspective as to what these hedges can do, we would definitely find out that they surely serve the defensive purposes as well. The hedges so formed usually comprise the plants that are thorny or have prickly leaves so that they may form useful fencing for the house or the property. Such hedges provide a higher level of security to the house as compared to normal routine fences.
Other than providing security, the hedges are also used for creating windbreaks or privacy screens. For this purpose usually small trees, either mixed with the shrubs or exclusively themselves, are employed. In such case where the plants are grown solely for this reason, the plants are allowed to grow by themselves i.e. naturally instead of trimming them or giving them a shape or size of your own desire. However in order to achieve combined reasons of decoration and practicality, you may opt to go for beatifying the hedge.
Not only that you can create your own hedges to make private living spaces outdoors and block the wind with your hedge, another very useful thing, that the hedge plants provide for, is the noise buffering ability. The hedges that you plant tend to reduce the amount of noise in your near surroundings as the sound absorbers.
The trimming of the hedge demands special care from the trimmer, whether be the gardener or you. More than one way is suspected to be used for the trimming purposes and for that you need to know that the trimming’s second year you should ready to get along with too much low branching being induced in your plants. So to keep the low branching healthy what you need to do is to start trimming from the top of the hedge and make it narrower as you move down. This is to make sure that the lower body of the hedge receives sufficient sunlight.
While talking about the trimming of plants it would not be fair if I leave aside the point that not all plants i.e. hedging plants need to be trimmed meticulously to form the desired sculpted and even surfaces. Only three types shrubs i.e. Privet, boxwood and yew require such trimming.
