Who is Teaching Your Child, The Media or You?
We often are wondering, why in the world our children are behaving the way they do. Angry, fearful, distasteful, bullies, wallflowers, cursing, no respect for elders or authority figuers and on and on……….
The most precious gifts that we have ever been given are our children.
However, sometimes parents are wondering if their gift is some sort of punishment from heaven.
Why is today’s youth so angry, so depressed, so informed yet so ignorant of loving and caring for one another?
Why are so many children on medication to fix the anger, depression and confusion andwhy do most medications make no difference or make it worse?
I don’t have the answers but I do ponder this every day, when I encounter children that are angry and hurting.
Recently, I took care of my seven year old grand daughter and we ended up watching some TV. We love to watch the Animal channel and some of the children shows that have a positive message in it. As she started to search for her channel that she loved, she stopped at a show that was so evil and dark, that it sent chills down my spine. The message was so depressing and the violence was so strong, that it frightened her and thank God she turned from it. She then told me, that this was one of the new and favorite shows that children her age are watching. I was shocked and devastated! I wonder if parents take the time to watch these shows with their kids and if they do and still allow it, what are they thinking?
Or are they thinking?
Next, we left the house and got in the car and turned on the radio and had to turn from the station because the message in the song contained nothing but cursing and derogatory remarks toward women. I don’t want my granddaughter to ever be called that or think any man can talk to her in that disrespectful manner. Thank God, neither do her mother and father, they monitor what she is reading and listening to very closely.
Once we made it to the store we looked for some books to read and she loved the pictures on the outside but soon put the book down because again the vampire that greeted inside her frightened her.
“Oma,” (German for grandma) she said “aren’t there any books that don’t have a bad person or monster in it?”
“There must be,” I said and the search begun.
Why?Why? Why? do the messages have to be so dark and cruel and frightening?
Liked it

Good write. Today’s society is indeed a scary place to be raising children.
