What’s Your Priority in Life?

Many of us claim that our priority is our family but does our action reflect that?

I recently started reading The Art of Communicating with your child and one of the paragraphs struck me.  Most of us spend a lot of time and money to get good at what we do daily at our work.

We spend more than 40 hours a week at work, training and practicing.  We also spend our time on weekends and after work metting up friends, customers, and colleagues building up our professional network.  I bet some of us even spend time with the social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook or even Twitter.

Now the question is how much time do we take to learn how to communicate with our children, with our family.  Do we spend the time taking courses on how to work with children?  I am sure a lot of us are sent to courses on soft skills like problem solving, speaking in public (mostly paid by the company we work with).

We spend the time to get to know our staff and colleagues but do we take the time to know our spouse and children.

I heard a story of this couple who were retired, they went to a restaurant for the wife’s birthday.  Upon reaching the restaurant, the husband ordered Roast Beef.  At that the wife asked, “Why did you order that dish?”

The husband said, “I thought that is your favorite dish!”

The wife then rebutted, “That is your favorite!! Not mine.”

So, isn’t it time for us to evaluate our priorities and act accordingly?

  1. Very true, I hope that when I become a mother I remember how my mother was with my brother and me.
