The Day The Devil in Disguise Fell in Love with an Angel in Waiting by Heather D. Wright
This short story is all about how the power of good can overcome the power of dark forces in this life. We all have good and bad times, and sometimes it feels evil will try to make or break us, but we should not lose heart because good always triumphs over the bad if we just keep the faith!
On one cool, crisp evening in autumn on the coast of a beautiful beach in North Carolina, two spirits were walking along the shore when suddenly their eyes met. The spirits of good and evil were instantly attracted to each other, and felt a connection that was not by chance but by true divine intervention.
“I cannot stand this,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “You can withstand all things because I love you.”
“You cannot trust me. I will hurt you,” replied the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I trust you are trying to make everyone think you are unworthy when I know in my heart you have a beautiful soul.”
“All I want to do is make people feel true hurt,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I know what it is like to hurt, but I know even better what it is like to heal.”
“All I think about is myself,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I know you care about others because I see the pain in your eyes when they mistreat you.”
“All my time is spent thinking about how I can make myself look better to make others look small,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I see you try to bring others down because you feel so inadequate and yet have so much to give.”
“All I do is think about what I can do to get ahead,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I see you thinking you want to be on top of the world, yet I feel you just wanting someone to make you feel special no matter where you are.”
“All I want is to make others suffer in every way possible,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I watch you second guess your motives because you feel guilt to inflict pain on someone else when your own inner turmoil consumes you.”
“All I want to do is befriend others, yet secretly devise ways to bring their spirits down,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I know you want a true friend so desperately that you will stop at nothing to use flattery and fake kindness to get approval, when in your heart you never knew what true friendship really means.
“All I want is to destroy the love God created because all it does is bring pain,” cried the Devil in Disguise.
The Angel in Waiting answered, “I know you need love because I feel your heart broken and yearning for true connection with another soul who loves you for who you are and not what you pretend to be.”
“Why do you try to read so much into things,” cried the Devil in Disguise, “I am evil and the one everyone loves to hate. I break hearts and I tear down people with the sweetest facade you can imagine! Nobody ever sees past my fake motives, except you! Why are you questioning me? Answer me Angel in Waiting!”
In the quiet, still moment of a beautiful sunset casting its light over the waves as they crashed on the shore, the Angel in Waiting replied, “Because I love you…I love you…I love you. All I ever wanted was for you to learn through all your disappointments to make you stronger, not to make you angry and ready to strike back at the world! I have been standing here waiting for you, just waiting for you to tell me how your empty facade and wounded soul has led you back to someone who loves you unconditionally. I see past the facade to the true root of your pain. I have been waiting for you to confront your own suffering so my love for you can bring back your spirit that has been trapped for so long by the worst of life’s circumstances. My love for you is here to free your soul.”
As the Devil in Disguise looked in the loving eyes of the Angel in Waiting, all the anger and bitterness seemed to vanish from his spirit, and as he smiled, he whispered the words, “Your love has saved me, and I hope you will forgive me, because you took this moment to show me true friendship and the kind of love that holds no judgment. You have always been there for me, and I love you. Thank you for leading me back to you.”
Instead of walking opposite directions on that lovely, North Carolina beach at sunset, the two spirits walked beside each other with trust and mutual understanding, knowing that even when things seem hopeless, there is a true Angel in Waiting ready to rescue the heart of a lost Devil in Disguise soul.
