You are probably thinking, what kind of a story is this, well it is true, my Stepfather, who is sadly no longer with us was on holiday in Monaco and driving with his Family on holiday there.
This was before my Stepfather was in my Family’s life, and he was driving along on this beautiful day approaching the main part of Monaco, in his Mazda, yes Mazda!
My Stepfather wondered why the streets were empty and he also wondered why there were barriers up in place, he was not aware that the race was on this day, and somehow, somewhere, he had managed to get on to the designated circuit for the Grand Prix, before the race was due to start!

There had been an obviously very significant mistake and a barrier had not been put into place to block all traffic from entering where the circuit is designated, this was a good number of years ago and I am sure security and pre-race plans are far more efficient now!
To finish my story, my Stepfather did eventually get back off the determined circuit, luckily before the race started, and he did also wonder why there were large crowds of people around, and cheering, he soon found out why!
It does make me wonder how he would have got on if the race had actually started, a true story and one I hope you all laugh at and enjoy!

Kewl!
A friend of mine got around a road barrier and was in ‘off limits’ space when Ronald & Nancy Reagan were visiting a city back where I lived in New York State… he was besieged by Secret Service cars within half a minute of course!
Racetime: fun fact: they weld the manhole covers when racing on highway street because the low stature of the cars and resultant air-flow of the fast-moving cars has the ability to lift the manhole cover up out of the street and cast it down the track behind the car!!

Chris, Wouldn’t it have been great if your stepfather’s plucky Mazda participated and won? It would have been a case of “The Little Mazda That Could”!
Respectfully, and with many thanks for sharing, Derdriu
