The Cover of Time Magazine : What is The Big Deal?

When should a mother stop breast feeding?

The cover of Times Magazine shows a 26 year old mother breast feeding her three year old son.

This has driven a lot of conversation on the Web. The big deal is that the mother on the cover, 26 year old, stay at home mom, Jamie Lynne Grumet, is breastfeeding her 3 year old son, and reports say that she herself was breasfed until she was 6!

This is a very provacative cover that rasies a lot of questions…

The benefits of breast feeding are well known through out the medical community and with mothers that choose this great way of providing nutrition to their infants.

Generally, I would say, To each his own, but c’mon. You don’t bottle feed for 3 to 6 years so why the heck would you breast feed for so long?

Raising our children and how we do it is always great conversation….. Isn’t it?

  1. Well somebody had to say it :)

  2. That’s unusual…

  3. This is very odd and I think not good for the child’s emotional and mental development.

  4. I think the issue is not that this woman still breastfeeds her son but the fact she chose to pose for such a provocative photograph – I think it’s a little unnecessary.

  5. I wish I had breast fed my daughter, though I would have weened her before 3 years old lol

  6. Would not that hurt the mother since the kid has teeth?

  7. However one raises their children is a personal issue, so, I wonder what this young lady has to be a cover girl. Good share!

  8. I think 3 is a little old for breastfeeding, but I do applaud the mother’s boldness.

  9. Mothers start weaning their babies around 1 year old, but this mother is breaking the rule. I wonder what made her go for a shoot like that. Of course, I am sure she got paid to pose like that.

  10. I surely wouldn’t breast feed a three year old. I just don’t agree with this but its the mother who has to deal with it.

  11. good work.

  12. I feel that the cover is inappropriate. I am a mom and a teacher, and I am offended. This is not something a cultured human being shares with the public.

  13. Hmm..I saw this in the news…people wants controversies and they want to be the trending topic in social media sites…The child is big enough, up to 2 years old could be enough for breastfeeding.

  14. cover of this magazine to be a problem, because less polite

  15. The cover of the magazine was not discreet. I support the campaign anyway. My mother actually did not stop breast feeding my younger brother until he started going to school. Hahaha!

  16. A great article ;I breastfed my three eldest childrenand if all goes well I think it’s great but not when the child is three;that is my opinion anyway !!Also the whole pose is so wrong and most definitely not good for the child.
To me it is somewhat disturbing !!!
    Thanks for sharing.

  17. Journalistically . . . it has to be a great success

  18. interesting cover

  19. Any1 here has or knows some1 who has a triond account?? It doesn’t matter if it gets $0 yearly , but I URGE to have a triond account, because this one I already have doesn’t make me a single penny even though I get traffic, I can reward you somehow too…Hope this is not considered scam..

  20. Interesting article.

  21. interesting, weird too

  22. interesting

  23. Wow this is crazy

  24. not a great cover! not even for the sake of getting attention. thanks for the share

  25. love reading this article..

  26. if it was published in my country, that must be controversial cover i think

  27. There are many different reasons while mothers choose to breastfeed their children longer then two years of age…and it’s not unusual as some people may think, and have a lot of benefits for child…Long breastfeeding won’t cause any problem with mental development either… But I’m more than agree that picture on the magazine cover is very provoking…never saw any breastfeeding mother doing it in standing position like that… Reminding me a cow and calf :)

  29. Well, I think the photo is quite disturbing as it indeed looks very sexual. The message it gives to kids can be disturbing as well.

  30. Not only is the mother seeking attention as she poses for this picture, but she is bringing negative attention to her child as well. One day other kids will no doubt tease the child about his age and the photo. Wrong in my mind…and who breastfeeds a child of his age!!!!!
