Symptoms of a Child’s Trouble in School

Going to school is a child’s major undertaking where lessons are sometimes the least of his problems. If your child exhibits two or more of these clues, it may be time to talk with the teacher.

  • Sleeplessness – especially if there is no physical cause.
  • Phantom illness – like tummy aches or fever.
  • Unexplained or frequent bruises
  • Frequent losses of school things, or conversely school things that aren’t his are in his bag
  • Frequently alone. He doesn’t seem to have friends.
  • Lying about school work
  • He doesn’t want you to take a look at his homework.

Most importantly, tune in to your child’s emotional problems by being emphatic listeners.  Poor self- concept can arise from lack of expressed parental appreciation and opportunities to perform.  Help your child make a great leap on his own by being aware of possible problems that might inhibit him from enjoying school.  Basically, communication is still the key.
