Spend time with your children.
The worst thing a parent can do is to be an absentee parent. Have quality time with them and tell them those folk stories your mother told you. Develop a sense of time management early in you child. Let them run a strict time schedule. If it is time for eating, sleeping, playing, reading, homework, personal hygiene, let it be time for those schedules.Children need to follow a strict schedule most of the times.

 Listen to your children.
Children always have something to say so as a good parent, allow your child say out his/her mind. When they are talking, listen to them and take note of their strongest views and work on them.

 Don’t criticize your children.
The worst thing you can do to your child criticize him and refer to him as a nobody. All children make mistakes-as a child, you were not free of mistakes so who are you now to be critical of your children’s errors.  When your children make mistakes take some time to explain to them all they need to know. Criticize the behavior, not the child.

 Don’t spank your children.
Most parents feel so frustrated and confused at times that they lose their temper and spank their children. This is a big parenting mistake because it will yield only fear without value. When a spanked child is with you the parent, he conforms, but when you are gone, the ill behavior in him thrives.
