Safer Home for Children

No matter where you are, it’s the safety of your children that is more important.

When it comes to renovation, making a home soundproof or water proof seems to be an easy task compared to making it a childproof home. Often the task is daunting and the results are not satisfactory.

Children are naturally curious and love to explore everything without realizing the dangers that can lead them into. The ideal way to keep your children safe is to always know what they are up to but unfortunately that too is not possible.

Here are a few ways to childproof your home.

  • Ideally install a flat screen TV attached to the wall at a reasonable height which is both safe and gives a modern look. Keep other electronic items perpetually plugged in to avoid tampering from kids.
  • A home with children and without a cordless phone is not only difficult, it is dangerous too. Children love to play with phones and often get tangled with cords. A cordless phone also enables parents to monitor their kids while talking on the phone. Ensure that the flooring of your living room is skid free and have an area where children can sit comfortably on the floor to read and play.
  • Carpeting is a good option especially on the stair cases within a house.
  • For security reasons, a grill on windows is a must especially for those living in apartment complexes. Latches on doors should be high enough so that little children aren’t able to open them unassisted.
  • Invest in a shelf that has drawers at various heights that cannot be reached by children. Leave the lower ones empty for them to explore, however put drawer closing barriers to avoid accidents. A house with kids should be well lit as proper lighting arrangement reduces fatigue and irritability.
  • The furniture in the house should be as simple as possible, made of easy to clean material and have no sharp edges.
