Ontario Full Day Jr. Kindergarten George Orwells 1984?

The province of Ontario has introduced full day Jr. kindergarten for children age 4. Where will this take our society?

The Ontario Liberal government says that “A full day of learning early in life can help improve a child’s reading, writing and math skills and provide a strong foundation for future learning. Ontario’s full-day kindergarten program will help prepare Ontario children for grade one and give them a better chance of finishing high school, going to post-secondary education and getting a good job.”

At such an early age in life, our children deserve to spend time with their parents, grandparents and siblings, not in a government run facility. Responsible parents know the importance of providing the family support, moral direction and basic educational skills needed for their kids. Yet the government feels that children should be deprived of their parents at such an early age. Could it be that “Liberalism” means indoctrinating youngsters to their way of thinking and taking control away from parents who might actually give children wisdom, creative thinking and knowledge? Have we not learned any lessons from World War II?

While many parents are too busy these days trying to make ends meet, most would prefer to have at least one parent at home to guide and support their children. Yet the government appears to prefer that both parents work in order to generate more tax revenue, which forces parents to make decisions which many dearly regret. Instead of being able to spend time with their kids, parents end up shifting their responsibility to the government and day care facilities.

No wonder why our society has deteriorated!  Many kids have no respect, not even for their own parents. Teenagers who have no moral direction, commit crimes, and then are protected by government decree. George Orwell wasn’t far off. When kids have poor grades and attitudes, they are still passed to the next level. The government now gives out secondary school certificates or certificates of accomplishment for kids who are unable to graduate and receive a secondary school diploma. While patting themselves on the back and claiming that more kids than ever are graduating, the government has done a disservice to those students. Instead, the students should be given intensive tutoring and support to help them achieve a proper diploma.

We can most likely trace many of the root causes of our societies maladies to government ineptitude.

While extolling the virtues of daycare, the government conveniently omits the downside. Many daycare facilities do not offer the comforts of home. Some daycare employees are only interested in their paychecks and do not provide proper care. Children can easily become sick from colds and contagious illnesses in a daycare facility as young tykes do not sneeze or cough into a Kleenex and wash their hands each time. Parents must work even longer hours to afford daycare in addition to paying the bills. This creates an unending cycle. Children see less and less of their parents while the government and third party caregivers indoctrinate the kids.

In today’s world, there is no reason for children so young to be forced into Jr. Kindergarten and daycare facilities. What’s next? Take the baby after it is born so that parents will work almost non-stop?

The only other option would be to home school your child and avoid Jr. Kindergarten and daycare facilities. It may be the last refuge available to concerned parents.
