On The Impossibility of Being a Great Parent
Examples of parental missteps.
We all know that what constitutes good parenting is tough to pin down. Parents and Children interact in so many different ways that offering Parental Guidance is very challenging, if not impossible. Put a little more simply, there are NO 10 Commandments for Good Parenting.
OK parents; let’s say that you have the following choice for your precious little girl:
She has a choice of spending the night with friend A whose parents are gun owners OR with friend B whose parents do NOT own guns but have a backyard swimming pool.
So your no brainer choice as an informed parent is to approve the slumber party with friend B. Think again after you become informed that annually around 550 children under the age of 10 drown in home pools AND that around 175 children under the age of 10 die from a gunshot.
Of course, the data here does not tell the whole truth. Maybe a good parent would intuit that a parent who owned a gun might have other attitudes and opinions that would deleteriously influence their children.
The only conclusion that can be drawn, in my view, is that if parents are trying hard to do the right thing for their kids then they deserve all the kudos in the world.
