Motivate Kids to Clean with the Internet

Want your kids to help out around the house and do their chores? Find out how the internet can help.

As the mother of four, I certainly have my fair share of housework and chores to do. More importantly, I long to teach my children how to be responsible for their own mess. Trying to motivate my children to clean up after themselves and help with the household chores can be a difficult task. In fact, teaching and motivating my kids becomes a chore on my things-to-do list. I have found that using the internet can be very helpful.

Yes, parents can help to motivate children by offering rewards for positive behavior. You may be thinking that allowing your child time to surf the internet may be a good reward. Although this is true, I have another suggestion.

Parents need to check out a fun and exciting website that makes housework and chores fun. Take a good look at Chore Wars and see how this can work with your family.

Parents can start a group on Chore Wars for the entire family. The site helps to turn housework and chores into a game. The cleaning game is similar to Dungeons and Dragons, in a sense. Each chore becomes a mission. After each responsibility has been fulfilled, your child can earn points and treasure.

The game can help children to see how their work pays off through the game while being tons of fun. Parents can also make special treats for a player reaching a certain level or number of points in the game. For instance, the player with the highest points at the end of the week gets to pick the movie on Saturday night. Another option is to reward each player that performs their chores or missions with a sticker for a job well done.

Using the internet to make housework a game can create an opportunity to enjoy family-friendly competition. Parents will be very surprised at how well and quickly this Chore Wars site works. For my family, I found myself entering in my own chores and feeling good about my accomplishments for the day. It was great to see my kids’ faces when they saw exactly what mom did during the day while they were at school.

Each child wanted to surpass their brothers and sisters. A whirlwind of helpers started to come out of the woodwork around my house. My errands and chores quickly were checked off of the to-do list.

Each child or parent in the cleaning party can choose their own character based on their preferences, skills, and abilities. Kids, in particular, love choosing their characters and watching them progress and change throughout the game as they accomplish their missions and finish housework.

Now, my kids will assess chores based on their points. My son asks how many points he will get for unloading the dishwasher. My daughter is eager to nab some points each time she folds a load of laundry.

Using the internet is just one way to encourage your family to help out around the house. Nobody really likes cleaning, but housework and chores can really be fun when you turn it into a game.
